What I Drank Last Night:

Herman J Weimer Riesling, Finger Lakes, New York 2008.

At about the time I have just about despaired of Long Island producing drinkable wine at a reasonable price, NY’s other wine region, the Finger Lakes, is beginning to do just that. This party pleaser shows real riesling personality, with intriguing hints of that varietal’s trademark petrolly quality, but not enough to overwhelm the lovely ripe fruits and powerful, flinty minerality. Delicious balance. ($18)

Hmm. I would like to try it. The more minerally the better when it comes to rieslings.

And whilst you were drinking a riesling (one of my favorites when they are great) I was, uncharacteristically, sipping a 2007 Hob Nob Pinot Noir which made me think that life is, indeed, a bowl of (black) cherries.
