A Zesty Limoncello Cocktail

A couple of years ago I wrote about a cocktail called a Frosty Lemon Martini. It was pretty good, but not so alluring that I was tempted to make it part of my regular repertoire.

limonata-low.jpgThat is until last week when I came across the recipe again and thought I’d give it another shot, and this time it turned out to be a real winner. The difference? The new version was made with Limoncé limoncello, a far dryer version of the Italian liquore than most.

Where the earlier concoction had been sweet and syrupy, this one really hums with the zingy taste of fresh lemon, and makes a wonderfully zesty cocktail, either straight up or on the rocks with a splash of soda.

3 oz citrus flavored vodka
1 oz Limoncé limoncello
4 tps lemon juice
dash of simple syrup or ½ packet Equal
strip of lemon zest

Shake the first four ingredients over ice.
Then:
Either pour into a well chilled martini glass and garnish with the lemon zest.
Or
Pour into a highball glass filled with crushed ice, and top off with a dash of soda.
